A group of  14 Under 11 Southport players have been trying out for the Next Step Zonal League for the North East group over the last few weeks.

Players from Southport, Runaway Bay, Musgrave, Magic United and Surfers Paradise are eligible to play in the Nth East zone and competition has been fierce.

A total of 46 players attended the first of three trials at Musgrave 2 weeks ago, 38 players last week with the number to be trimmed down to 16 after this Sunday's final trial (which will be held at our home ground at 830 am Sunday the 30th may). That's 14 out-field players and 2 goal keepers.

Rob Jones will be the Coach and he has been busy watching matches to see the boys playing as many games as possible.

The Gold Coast is broken into 4 Zones and the 4 teams will play a series of  matches against each other to show-case the talent on the Coast.  For those of you that aren't aware,The Zonal league is the pre-cursor to the Rep Program which starts from the Under 12 age group. The players in the Zonal League will most likely fill the 15 spots in the Under 12 Gold Coast Rep team next year. Those players are not allowed to play fro Clubs anymore but play for the Reps full time in a seperate competition.
